About Wajima Lacquering

These traditional Japanese chopsticks (hashi) are of the famous Wajima Lacquer style.
This style of lacquer stems from Wajima city in Ishikawa prefecture and has a history of almost 500 years, but there has been found remnants of lacquerware in the area dating back 6800 years.
It is one of the most complicated styles of lacquering, meaning that a single item can take up to 5 years to complete.
